Revelation Missionary Baptist Church Deacons

The Deacons are helpers to the Pastor in administering to the needs of the congregation.  Deacons provide spiritual, financial and physical support to the congregation.  The Pastor appoints or recommend Deacons to the congregation for approval by majority vote.  The scriptural need for Deacons was established in Acts 6:1-7, and the qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.

The Deacons of Revelation are in constant prayer for the Sick and Shut-In, the Pastor, the entire congregation, the community, Nation, and world at large.  Some members of the Deacons support a number of key ministries, auxiliaries, and positions in the church, including Security Team, Finance Committee, Budget Committee, Music Department, Laymen, Youth Church, Prayer Meeting, Prison Ministry, Evangelism, Church School, etc.

Some of the specific duties assigned to Deacons at Revelation include the following:

  • Administering to the needs of members in their assigned Wards.  Deacon Wards are defined by the first letter in the last name of each member.   We encourage all members, if you are sick, bereaved, in need, have questions regarding church policies or workings of the church, to contact their Deacon.
  • Deacons work closely with the Clerk’s Office in administering the Sick Policy and Bereavement Policy affecting their assigned members.
  • Deacons rotate in service on the Benevolent Committee to investigate and help meet the benevolent request needs for both members and non-members.
  • Deacons participate in the development, approval, and administration of various church policies and procedures.
  • Deacons assist in administering communion services, by distributing the bread and wine sacrament to the congregation.
  • Lead devotional services, especially on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Sundays, and other services as appropriate, helping to establish a spiritual environment in ushering in the Holy Spirit prior to start of worship services.
  • Deacons provide two rotating members to serve on the Budget Committee.
  • In the absence of a Pastor, the Deacons shall serve as the Pulpit Search Committee, and the Chairman of Deacons will moderate church meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor and congregation.

The officers of the Deacons are:
Dea. Otis Battles Jr. – Chairman
Dea. Johnny P. Kennedy, Sr. – Vice Chairman
Dea. Frederick Brown – Secretary
Dea. Warren Greene - Teacher
