A Christian who willing lives a life of devotion to Jesus.

Foundational Truths for a Disciple of Jesus

In life we have what are called values and we believe in these values so much that we are willing to suffer to maintain our commitment to those values. It is even more so for a Disciple of Jesus. As we strive to live a life of devotion to Jesus, there are certain foundational truths that
we hold on to and are not willing to comprise on. A crack in these foundational truths, weakens the foundation and eventually causes a fallen away from the devotion that we have for Jesus. In other words, we eventually leave our first love. Therefore, we must believe and commit to the foundational truth that:

Recommended Initial Bible Reading

□ Book of John – To solidify our belief that Jesus is the Christ
□ First John – Assurance of the indwelling of God and Fellowship with Him
□ Second John – Steadfastness in the practice and purity of God’s Word
□ Third John – Fellowship with the Brethren
□ Book of Romans – The critical importance of Faith. As outline in the Introduction to
Romans, by Matthew Henry, he describes “the first eleven chapters as doctrinal and the
last five chapters as practical to inform the judgment and to reform the life”. Chapters 1-
4, clearly shows us that salvation is not obtained by the works of nature, nor the works of
the law, but only by faith in Jesus Christ. Matthew Henry goes further in describing the
steps of this salvation as: Peace with God, Chapter 5:1-8; Sanctification, Chapters
6:1-8 and Chapters 7:1-8; and Glorification, Chapter 8:1-8. In the practical parts of
Romans, he states that we have several general exhortations proper for all Christians,
Chapter 12; directions for our behavior as members of civil society, Chapter 13 and rules
for our conduct to one another, as members of the Christian church in Chapter 14 and
15.
